British Airways and Singapore Airlines cancel flights to the Persian Gulf. The United States previously launched air strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, and Tehran vowed to retaliate.
According to Flightradar24, British Airways canceled several flights to Dubai and diverted two flights originally to Dubai. The flight tracking website showed that one of the flights took off from Heathrow Airport on Saturday night and diverted to Zurich after arriving in Saudi Arabian airspace early Sunday. The other flight to Dubai returned to Heathrow Airport after flying to Egypt.
Due to operational restrictions and airspace control, British Airways canceled flights to Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Sunday and suspended flights to Bahrain until the end of the month. British Airways said that in view of recent events, it has adjusted its flight schedule to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
Singapore Airlines issued an announcement that based on a security assessment of the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, it would cancel eight flights between Singapore and Dubai from June 22 to 25.
Emirates suspends flights to Iran and Iraq until June 30.
Meanwhile, other airlines are rerouting flights.
Japan Airlines plans to avoid the airspace over the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman between Tokyo Haneda Airport and Doha, adding about 20 minutes to the flight. Air India will gradually avoid using parts of the Persian Gulf airspace in the coming days.
Even before the US airstrikes, several US and European airlines had suspended flights to the UAE and Qatar as Israel began bombing Iran.
