Amazon launches low-priced version of Kindle Colorsoft color e-reader, priced at $249.99

Jul 25, 2025

Recently, after launching the first Kindle Colorsoft with a color screen last year, Amazon announced today that it has added two new Kindle Colorsoft e-book readers to further enrich its product line. The new products include a Kindle Colorsoft with 16GB storage capacity priced at $249.99, and a Kindle Colorsoft Kids package designed for children, priced at $269.99. The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition will continue to be sold at $279.99.

In a blog post, Amazon said: "Our customers love reading with color Kindle. They spend more time on Kindle Colorsoft than other Kindle devices on average and read hundreds of more pages. That's why we are very happy to introduce two new members of the Kindle Colorsoft family."

The new Kindle Colorsoft is $30 cheaper than the Signature Edition, but the Signature Edition has higher configurations, including 32GB of storage, an automatically adjustable front light, and wireless charging. The Kindle Colorsoft Kids package designed for children includes a Kindle Colorsoft with 16GB of storage, a specially designed protective case (users can choose one of two styles), and a one-year subscription to the Amazon Kids Plus membership service.

After the release of the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, Amazon briefly suspended shipments due to customer feedback that the screen had yellow stripes. Currently, Amazon acknowledged on its official store page that "a small number of customers have reported yellow stripes" and said that the company has solved the problem through a "combination of software and display adjustments."
