Nintendo's Historical Sales Data: Over 860 Million Hardware Units, Nearly 5.9 Billion Software Units

Nintendo's official announcement shows that its cumulative game console sales have exceeded 860 million units, and software sales have reached 5.9 billion units.



"Since launching the Family Computer system in Japan in 1983, and continuing today with the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has been dedicated to the development, manufacturing, and sales of gaming hardware and software," Nintendo said in a statement. "To date, we have sold over 5.9 billion copies of software and 860 million hardware devices worldwide, creating classic franchises such as Mario, Donkey Kong, Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Metroid, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Splatoon."

The Nintendo DS currently holds the top spot in the hardware market with 154.02 million units sold, but the Nintendo Switch (153.1 million units and growing) is expected to surpass it in the coming months.
