According to recent leaks, Activision's upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will blend single-player campaign and multiplayer in an unprecedented way—the campaign's final mission will unfold in a 32-player online battle.
In June of this year, Xbox and Activision officially announced the new installment in the popular shooter. The first trailer showcased a futuristic campaign and briefly showcased the series' signature multiplayer and zombie modes.
Furthermore, the game is confirmed to support solo play or up to four-player cooperative play—while not a first for the series, it's also uncommon. The real break from tradition is the rumored climax of the campaign, which will culminate in a multiplayer battle.
On August 14th, Insider Gaming reported that sources familiar with the matter revealed that Black Ops 7's campaign will consist of 12 missions, the final of which will plunge players into a 32-player online melee. The map for this final battle, called "Avalon," was previously rumored to be the setting for a battle royale mode, but it's actually the stage for this unique campaign experiment.
