Ubisoft Chairman Yves Guillemot recently stated at the Global New Sports Conference in Saudi Arabia that the company plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve the interactivity of in-game NPCs and enhance the responsiveness of open-world games to player behavior.
Guillemot noted that AI can be used to create character experiences that are more realistic than real people. For example, players can interact with historical figures in games, using the system to capture data on their words and actions, creating a more authentic communication experience. He cited the character of Socrates in Assassin's Creed Odyssey as an example, stating that future AI characters will be able to dynamically develop personalities and philosophical ideas based on player behavior.
Guillemot also emphasized that AI technology will make open-world games more intelligent, with player behavior directly influencing the game environment's responses, rather than relying on pre-set scripts. Ubisoft hopes to use this technology to ensure that players' decisions and actions within the game world have real-world impacts, enhancing immersion.
Ubisoft has long been interested in the application of AI in game development. Guillemot's statement indicates that the company will further explore the potential of AI technology in character interactions and open-world dynamic systems.
