Medieval shooter Kingmakers delayed on the eve of release

Oct 04, 2025

Kingmakers was supposed to enter Early Access in a few days, but apparently it's not quite ready yet. The medieval sandbox shooter has been delayed indefinitely as Redemption Road Studios works hard to ensure everything is working as expected. "We need more time to polish the content until we feel it's worth paying for," the studio wrote in its announcement on Friday.

You've probably seen references to Kingmakers everywhere over the past few years, even if you didn't realize it was it.

The multiplayer game features sprawling maps, massive armies, and real-time destruction—you can engage in everything from medieval battles to blasting a group of armored knights with a tank.

The game's impressive physics simulation made it a social media sensation, leading to a blockbuster trailer at this year's Summer Game Fest and the sixth-most-wanted game on Steam.

So, it was a surprise to see it pulled from the game at the last minute before its release.

The team announced today: "After careful consideration, we've realized that Kingmakers' original launch date of October 8th is no longer possible. We would like to apologize to all of our fans who eagerly awaited this game. We're sorry to disappoint everyone."

The rest of the statement attempts to explain the game's indefinite delay. Simply put: Kingmakers' ambitions are huge, and achieving them is incredibly challenging!

Redemption Road Studios stated: "We currently have tens of thousands of soldiers in the game, each equipped with AI and pathfinding comparable to a AAA third-person shooter. Even when you leave the battlefield, the battle continues. None of this is fictional. We've built a massive, six-story castle, every room accessible, every wall, floor, and ceiling destructible. When you build a sawmill, it becomes a real place—you can enter it, and when enemies invade, it can be used as a battle arena."

The studio didn't reveal any further details, but promised to provide an in-depth livestream of the game soon to update players on development progress. It sounds like this delay won't just be a few weeks or months. Can it still be released before the end of 2026? We'll have to wait and see.

"We want to ensure that everyone who buys the game is immersed in it and feels their money's worth," the developer wrote.
