The Battlefield 6 team says the secret to creating top-tier destruction is abandoning the PS4.

As the series' first installment in four years, Battlefield 6, set to release this Friday, is highly anticipated. After the initial setbacks of Battlefield 2042, DICE Studios has a clear goal: to create a classic game that will redefine the series in the competitive shooter market.

Technical Director Christian Buhl cites a simple yet crucial reason for the impressive performance of Battlefield 6's destruction system: "Perhaps the only 'magic' is that we're no longer limited to the PS4 or Xbox One platforms." He further explained that freeing ourselves from the constraints of previous-generation consoles has raised the fundamental development threshold in terms of memory and CPU speed, which clearly contributes to overall performance improvements.

Beyond the hardware upgrade, Buhl emphasized that the stunning destruction is the result of extensive, hard work. "This is a lot of testing, optimization, and iteration. We're using the Frostbite engine, which was built specifically for Battlefield, and the destruction itself is the core of the engine. There's no 'magic,' just testing, iteration, and a lot of work."

The previously released beta has demonstrated stable performance. While some believe this is due to the smaller test maps, Buhl confirmed that this was done to focus on optimizing the gunplay, and the full launch version will include all the large-scale maps.

Battlefield 6 will officially release on October 10th. Digital players can pre-load the game on PlayStation and Xbox.
