On October 13th, Pacific Time, in the fourth round of Group B of the 2026 World Cup European Qualifiers, Sweden, ranked 32nd in the world, lost 0-1 at home to Kosovo, ranked 91st in the world. Asllani scored the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute. In the first leg, Sweden lost 0-2 away to Kosovo. Sweden remains winless in this World Cup qualifier, with one draw and three losses in four matches.

Despite boasting two star strikers, Isak and Jokeres, valued at nearly €200 million combined, Sweden has failed to score in its last three World Cup qualifiers (0-2 Kosovo, 0-2 Switzerland, 0-1 Kosovo). Currently, Sweden has only one point from four matches and is at the bottom of its group, nine points behind Switzerland at the top and six behind Kosovo in second place. With two matches remaining, Sweden has already lost its group lead and will miss out on qualifying for the World Cup.

According to the European Qualifiers rules, the top team in each group advances directly to the 2026 World Cup, while the runner-up enters the play-offs. Sweden will next face Switzerland away and Slovenia at home. While finishing second in the group is unlikely, Sweden's high points in the Nations League still allow it to qualify for next year's World Cup through the play-offs.
