Welcome to a new era of gaming! GameStop announces the official end of the console wars.

Oct 27, 2025

According to media reports, GameStop recently released a humorous official statement announcing that "the console wars that have lasted for over two decades are officially over." The announcement came as Microsoft confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch on the PlayStation 5 in 2026.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a complete remake of the classic game Halo: Combat Evolved. It is expected to launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2026, supporting cross-platform play. This will be the first time in nearly 25 years that the main Halo series will be available on a non-Xbox platform.

GameStop stated in a press release: "With the upcoming release of Halo: Campaign Evolved on PlayStation, the global gaming community sees the end of over two decades of the 'console wars.' We encourage all players to put aside their faction rivalries and embrace a new era of gaming together."

Halo Studios Community Director Brian Jarrard stated in a subsequent interview that this move symbolizes a more open strategic direction for Microsoft and the development team: "The Halo series has always emphasized shared experiences and camaraderie among players. With this cross-platform release, we hope to allow even more players to experience this spirit together."

Industry insiders believe that the release of Halo on PlayStation represents a significant shift in Microsoft's first-party game strategy. In recent years, Microsoft has gradually promoted cross-platform releases for its titles to enhance brand influence and enhance game accessibility. This move is also seen as a significant signal of the transition in the console gaming landscape from "exclusive competition" to "win-win cooperation."
