American tech billionaire Elon Musk launched his Grok version of the encyclopedia, Grokipedia, on Monday (October 27th). It's a crowdsourced online encyclopedia with entries edited by his artificial intelligence company, xAI.

Musk previously posted on his social media platform, X, that the new project, called Grokipedia, will "clean up" the "propaganda" that permeates Wikipedia.
Grokipedia, which was briefly down after its launch on Monday afternoon, features over 800,000 AI-generated encyclopedia entries, compared to Wikipedia's nearly 8 million human-written entries. Visitors to grokipedia.com are first greeted by a simple logo and a search bar that allows them to search for topics.
A Grokipedia entry about Musk describes his public persona as "a blend of innovative visionary and cynical provocateur" and details his diet, noting that he "occasionally indulges, such as eating donuts and drinking multiple Diet Cokes every morning." Grokipedia also has entries about OpenAI, a competitor to xAI, and political figures like US President Trump and New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
The new website expands Musk's online media ecosystem, which aligns with his personal political views.
Wikipedia, launched nearly 25 years ago, has come under increasing criticism from American conservatives in recent months. Musk and his political allies believe the online encyclopedia is rife with "woke virus" and excludes conservative media from its approved citations.
