Meta Platform (Meta.US) is discussing building a new data center park for its artificial intelligence project, with a potential cost of more than $200 billion, The Information reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Meta executives have informed data center developers that the company is considering building data centers in states such as Louisiana, Wyoming or Texas, and senior leaders have visited potential locations this month.
Since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022, companies from all walks of life have been working to incorporate artificial intelligence into their products and services, resulting in a surge in investment in artificial intelligence. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company plans to spend $65 billion this year to expand its artificial intelligence infrastructure.
In contrast, MSFT.US said it plans to invest about $80 billion in data center development in fiscal 2025, while retail giant AMZN.US said its 2025 spending will be higher than the $75 billion expected in 2024.
Recently, "Microsoft's withdrawal of two data centers" has also sparked heated discussions. Facing market doubts, Microsoft reiterated its capital expenditure plan of more than $80 billion on Monday, but admitted that it may make strategic adjustments in some areas.
