Qingshen Bamboo Weaving is an ancient folk craft circulated in Qingshen County, Meishan City, Sichuan Province, China. It uses artificial weaving of bamboo pieces and strips of different thicknesses into various production and living supplies, which is widely used locally. In 2008, Qingshen Bamboo Weaving was included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Qingshen bamboo weaving requires cutting down the bamboo, scraping the skin, splitting the bamboo, and drawing the silk. The bamboo is made into a thin bamboo skin, and then the bamboo skin is divided into 1 cm wide bamboo threads; each bamboo thread is further divided into 48 or even 64 bamboo threads thinner than a hair. The difficulty and amount of work can be imagined. After the finished product, a piece of bamboo weaving art can be sold for thousands of yuan, so in Qingshen there is a saying that "bamboo silk is more expensive than gold".
As a specialty of Qingshen County, Sichuan Province, Qingshen bamboo tubes are long, sparsely knotted, and have a flexible texture. Qingshen bamboo weaving focuses on the weaving of characteristic cultural landscapes, calligraphy works, and celebrity portraits, and is purely hand-woven in a specific environment. No adhesive is used for locking and finishing, and the raw materials are all natural bamboo materials. After being framed by picture frames, silk and other methods, it is made into exquisite bamboo weaving artworks.
Qingshen bamboo weaving has a long history, exquisite craftsmanship, and orderly inheritance. Qingshen bamboo weaving is divided into three categories: flat bamboo weaving, three-dimensional bamboo weaving, and mixed bamboo weaving. The products are divided into four grades: low, medium, high and fine, mainly including production supplies, daily necessities, tourist goods and artworks, with a total of more than 3,000 varieties.
