Toho has officially announced its return to Godzilla console games, according to Godzilla-Movies. It's been over ten years since the first "Godzilla" movie came out in 2014. That same year, Japan also launched the Godzilla works of the Reiwa era.
During this period, Godzilla produced many blockbusters that achieved both box office success and critical acclaim across the United States and Japan, while also ushering in an explosion over the past two years: "Godzilla-1.0" in 2023 and "Godzilla vs Kong: The New Empire" in 2024 have successively achieved impressive results.
The King of Monsters is making a surprise entrance into comics. In October 2023, he will debut in the DC Universe with "Justice League VS Godzilla VS King Kong." He'll also return to Marvel Comics in a five-issue series called "Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe."" Fifty years have passed since his first appearance in Marvel in the last century.
These actions are all due to Toho's global strategic investment of up to 120 billion yen (about 830 million US dollars). It is worth noting that Toho's game department currently has three mobile games in operation: "Godzilla Run" is a monster racing wonder, "Godzilla Destroyer" is an action simulation type, and "Godzilla Battle Line" is a real-time strategy game.
In recent years, Godzilla has made numerous appearances in other games. In addition to "Fortnite" and "Major Smash," it has also appeared in unexpected works such as "Minecraft," "Call of Duty," and even "Diver Dave." But two years after Godzilla Voxel Wars, Toho finally decided to let the superstar return to the exclusive game series.
This move matches the return of licensed games. Hasbro's Snake Eyes, Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, and the new Godzilla game make a solid trio.
