Germany's Transfermarkt published a ranking of last season's Premier League spending/points, with Liverpool firmly in first place, Newcastle second, Everton third, and Manchester United 18th.
This ranking calculates the points earned by a club in the Premier League by the amount spent on transfers, calculating the number of points earned per €1 million spent.
Besides being the Premier League champions last season, Liverpool also spent remarkably little, spending just €42 million to sign Chiesa and Mamardashvili for future development. Yet, they ultimately earned 84 Premier League points, meaning they earned 2 points per €1 million spent—an incredible achievement that leads the league by a wide margin.
By comparison, second-place Newcastle United's figure was only 0.97. Eddie Howe's team spent €68.2 million last season and earned 66 league points.
Everton actually only ranked 13th in the Premier League, but their spending was so low that they ranked third on the list with 0.96 points per €1 million spent.
Among the other Big Six teams, Arsenal ranked fourth (0.68), Manchester City ranked 13th (0.29), Chelsea ranked 15th (0.24), Tottenham Hotspur ranked 17th (0.20), and Manchester United ranked 18th, earning only 0.17 points per €1 million spent.
The only teams with a lower score than Manchester United were Ipswich Town and Southampton, both of which have already been relegated. Leicester City, another relegated team, ranked only 14th on the list.
