The 2025 Community Shield took place at Wembley Stadium. Last season's Premier League champions Liverpool lost 4-5 on aggregate to last season's FA Cup winners Crystal Palace, missing the title, while Crystal Palace won their first Community Shield title. New signings Ekitik and Frimpong twice put Liverpool ahead, while Mateta and Sarr equalized. In the penalty shootout, three Liverpool players, Salah, Soboslai, and Elliott, missed their penalties. Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson saved two. Alisson also saved Eze's penalty, and Sousa also missed.

Liverpool's key defensive midfielder, Gravenberch, was sidelined due to his partner's maternity leave. Van Dijk and Salah led the starting lineup, while four summer transfer signings—Frimpon, Kerkazy, Wirtz, and Ekitik—all made their official debuts. Crystal Palace captained the team, with Matteta playing as the lone striker.

Just four minutes into the match, Liverpool got off to a dream start. Wirtz's cross from the left side of the penalty area was met by Ekitik's low shot from the top left corner, making it 1-0! Ekitik scored his first official goal for Liverpool.

In the 12th minute, Eze's shot from the top left of the penalty area was blocked by a defender and went out of bounds. Subsequently, Crystal Palace's corner kick was cleared by a defender, and Walton's shot from the left side of the penalty area was again blocked by a defender. In the 15th minute, Van Dijk tripped Sarr in the penalty area, and referee Kavanagh awarded Crystal Palace a penalty. In the 17th minute, Crystal Palace equalized. Mateta's penalty kick deceived Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson and his low shot found the bottom right corner, 1-1!

In the 18th minute, Wirtz passed the ball to Kyle Kaze, whose shot from the left edge of the penalty area was blocked by a defender. In the 20th minute, Muñoz crossed from the right side of the frontcourt, and Mitchell's shot from inside the penalty area went wide of the right post. In the 21st minute, Liverpool took the lead again. Szoboslai delivered a long pass just past midfield, and Frimpong made a strong run from the right side of the penalty area. The ball, half-pass and half-shot, flew past Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson and into the far corner, 2-1! Frimpong scored his first goal for Liverpool.

In the 29th minute, Crystal Palace brought on Hughes for the injured Japanese player Daichi Kamada. In the 36th minute, Muñoz crossed from the right side of the frontcourt, and Hughes' shot from inside the penalty area went wide. In the 43rd minute, Konate was given a yellow card for bringing down Mateta. A minute later, Wirtz's referee, Kavanagh, was also given a yellow card for his dissatisfaction with the call. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Wirtz's cross from the left side of the penalty area was met by Frimpong's volley from the right side of the penalty spot, which went over the crossbar. In the seventh minute of stoppage time, Muñoz's cross from the right side of the penalty area was met by Sarr's volley from the middle, but he was unable to touch the ball. Liverpool led Crystal Palace 2-1 going into the break.

The second half resumed. In the 46th minute, Kerkazy passed the ball, and Gakpo's shot from the left side of the penalty area was blocked by a defender. Kerkazy then orchestrated another attack, sending a cross from the left side of the penalty area to Ekitik, who headed the ball wide. In the 52nd minute, Wirtz's cross from the left side of the penalty area was met by Ekitik's shot from the front, but it went over the crossbar. In the 56th minute, Soboslai passed the ball, and Gakpo's shot from the left side of the penalty area was blocked by a defender. In the 58th minute, Crystal Palace received a cross from the left, which Mateta headed to Sarr, who followed up with a header from the edge of the box, but it went just wide of the right post.

In the 60th minute, Eze's shot from the edge of the penalty area was blocked by a defender and went out of bounds. In the 61st minute, Walton sent in a corner kick, and Richards' header was saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. In the 62nd minute, Walton made a diagonal pass, and Eze's low shot from the left side of the penalty area was again saved by Alisson. In the 69th minute, Soboslai made a diagonal pass, and Wirtz turned and shot from the top of the penalty area, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 71st minute, Liverpool brought on Endo Wataru and McAllister for Jones and Ekitik, respectively. In the 72nd minute, McAllister passed the ball, and Soboslai's low shot from the edge of the penalty area was saved by Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. In the 77th minute, Crystal Palace equalized again. Gakpo was intercepted in the backcourt, Walton passed the ball through, and Sarr, facing the onrushing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson from the right side of the penalty spot, shot past the inside of the right post and into the net, 2-2!

In the 79th minute, Crystal Palace brought on summer signing Sousa for Mitchell. Then, Crystal Palace launched a very threatening attack. Sarr's shot from just outside the six-yard box was blocked by a defender and went wide. VAR intervened, revealing that McAllister's arm touched the ball inside the penalty area before Sarr received it. Referee Kavanagh ultimately determined that the Liverpool player's No. 10's touch was unintentional and, instead of awarding a penalty, awarded Crystal Palace a corner kick. In the 83rd minute, Kyle Kazee crossed from the left side of the penalty area, and Salah's low shot from the center was saved by Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

In the 83rd minute, Muñoz passed the ball, and Mateta's shot from inside the penalty area went wide. In the 84th minute, Liverpool brought on Elliott and Robertson for Wirtz and Kyle Kaze, respectively, while Crystal Palace brought on Lerma for Walton. In the 87th minute, Salah was given a yellow card for bringing down Eze. In the second minute of stoppage time, McAllister crossed, and Szoboslai's low shot from the edge of the penalty area was saved by Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Crystal Palace brought on De Finney for Guei. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Eze passed the ball. De Finney's low shot from the top right of the penalty area went just wide of the left post. At the end of the 90 minutes, Liverpool and Crystal Palace were tied 2-2, requiring a penalty shootout to determine the winner.

Liverpool took the first penalty kick. Salah missed the first, and Mateta's low shot found the bottom right corner, giving Crystal Palace a 1-0 lead. In the second round, Szoboslai's low shot into the bottom right corner was saved by Dean Henderson, and Eze's low shot into the bottom left corner was saved by Alisson, giving Crystal Palace a 1-0 lead. In the third round, Gakpo deceived Dean Henderson and shot low into the bottom right corner. Sarr's half-high shot hit the right side of the goal, giving Crystal Palace a 2-1 lead. In the fourth round, Elliott's low shot into the bottom left corner was again saved by Dean Henderson. Sousa's penalty kick hit the crossbar, giving Crystal Palace a 2-1 lead. In the fifth round, Szoboslai's shot into the left side of the goal was scored, and De Finney's shot into the right side was scored. Crystal Palace defeated Liverpool 3-2 and won the Community Shield with a total score of 5-4.
